Why did I (Winston) write this book?
My most distant Riddle ancestor is my great-great-grandmother, Rebecca Riddle, born about 1825. My most distant Landers ancestor is my great-great-great-grandfather, Barney Landers, born about 1783. In 1903 in Madison County Rebecca Riddle's grandson, Colonel Winston Avery Riddle, married Julia Landers, great-grandaughter of Barney Landers. This publication contains all the known descendants of the families of Rebecca Riddle and Barney Landers that this writer has been able to identify.
While my grandparents, Avery and Julia Landers Riddle had roots in Madison County, the family relocated to the North Fork Valley in the eastern part of Buncombe County after the 1910 census.
This book is a compilation of the known Riddle and Landers descendants. Each one who reads this book is encouraged to add other members of the two families. Hopefully a more complete picture will be achieved.
